I love a round-numbered episode where I give myself permission to do whatever I like! – and this time it’s to have a bit of a chat with myself (and possibly a rant) about the idea of travelling versus vacationing or holidaying. If the latter involves little exploring then I’m not really a big fan – and I chat about why in this episode, along with a bunch of other related ideas I’ve had really brought home to me thanks to this pandemic year of non-travel.
I talk about our recent staycation attempt – where exploring was an important part of it, not just staying by the pool. For example – we had a good wander around Perth’s newest stadium while it was morning and completely devoid of activity.

We also spent some time in the pool and did crazy stuff like find the longest words we could make from the sign next to it (which said “no entry to gutter”!) and marvel at the pearly luminescence of some of the pool tiles in certain sunlight angles. Difficult to photograph but it fascinated us!

Travel vs Vacation – Lessons from 2020
For this special round-numbered episode I wanted to muse on just one of the important lessons the 2020 pandemic has taught me about travel.
In this episode I talk about issues like taking relaxing holidays (I’m bad at it; and most of the Thoughtful Travellers community agreed it’s not their style); travelling close to home and staycationing, and some of the reasons I really miss the ability to travel further afield, to different cultures, languages and countries.
